Every month I share how profitable blogging really is. Some months have a positive income report, others reflect a negative income report.
January 2015 Monthly Income Report
January 2015 was filled with change and focus from last year. I took the last few months away from blogging of 2014 to enjoy the holidays with my family and take time to think about what direction I wanted the business to go in 2015. This time off was much needed and gave me a sense of clarity since I wasn’t focused on just pushing out new content, but rather deciding what type of content I want to share. I took time with my Leonie Dawson Biz Workbook to map things out. If you haven’t picked yours up yet, it is not too late! I set SMART goals and even shared them publicly in the Learn To Blog Hangouts VIP Forum. If you are looking for a group of bloggers to connect with and help each other grow then I strongly suggest, you join up.
Hours logged for January 2015: 113 hours and 31 minutes. This is quite a busy month considering I spent almost a week in the hospital welcoming the newest addition to my family.
I rely on RescueTime to track the time I spend on my computer. This tool tracks everything from time on the internet to time editing in Photoshop.
This month I did spend quite a bit more time on Facebook than I probably should have. I know that this is because I am very active the Learn To Blog Hangouts Facebook group. If you are not a member yet, I strongly encourage you to join this wonderful group of bloggers.
Traffic for the month of January was not as high as I hoped for but given that I took the last part of 2014 off I figured it would take some time for traffic to start picking up again. I did see a nice jump in traffic when a post was published on The Sits Girls Blog. It was a post that I submitted to their site last year, and I was quite surprised when it was finally published and the bump in traffic for the day. I am still seeing a few hits on this post a week later.

While I was able to see a profit for the month of January, it was not as much as I hoped to see. I started to implement some better techniques for using affiliate products near the end of the month and hope that play out in February as I anticipate. One of my highest expenses is the subscription to Grammarly while this is about $20 a month for the premium package, I believe that is worth that. You can read more about why it is The Proofreading Tool That Will Make You A Better Blogger.
Thoughts for the future:
While I didn’t make my goal of publishing a new blog post at least five times a week, I was able to publish a total of 17 blog posts for the month. It is still my goal for February to publish at least four new blog posts a week, this is a new habit that I am trying to build into a daily routine. When I publish new content regularly I do see an increase in traffic. I am also working on how to use affiliate products more efficiently to earn a revenue with. There are quite a few products that I love and can’t wait to share them in the upcoming months.
Another goal for the upcoming month is to pay someone to participate in linky parties for me. I love the idea of sharing posts with other bloggers, however, I find it hard to find the time to link up when the parties go live and am usually late to the party and don’t see the traffic that I would like.
