Every month I share how profitable blogging really is. Some months have a positive income report, others reflect a negative income report.
March 2015 Monthly Income Report
Recap of Goals for March:
- Earn $300 from Busybee’s Creation
- Have 5000 pageviews
- Publish (at least) 8 blog posts for the month
Last month I set out three goals for the month of March and while they were somewhat attainable they didn’t quite happen. For the Busybee’s Creation shop I tried to have a week long sale hoping that it would boost sales and traffic and push me over the goal of $300, this didn’t go as expected. I did see an increase in sales for the week but not enough to keep the momentum going after it ended. The total revenue from the shop was a little more than $200.
For the blog, I wanted to see 5000 page views. This has been a goal for quite some time and I have always struggled to achieve it. I know that this is entirely my fault because I tend to slack when it comes to promoting my blog posts. I only saw almost half of those page views. I also wanted to publish 8 blog posts for the month, I have gone back and forth on how much content I want/need to create and have finally decided that publishing loads of short content may not be best. I have decided that it would be better to focus on creating longer, more detailed content less frequently rather than little blurbs of information. Both have their places on the internet, both are not best for everyone.
March was quite a busy month. I spent quite a bit of time on the Busybee’s Creation Etsy shop trying to boost sales. I ran a half off sale for a week and while the number of sales did increase my average revenue for a week dropped. I have yet to see the consistency I had before the sale come back after the sale.
I also only published 5 blog posts for the month. While I had a goal of 8 for the month I still see this as a partial win because my overall page views increased from February.
I also see that I spent quite a bit of time on unimportant stuff, like social media and shopping. While I would like to think that my social media time was spent networking with other blogs, I know that the majority of it was simply wasting time because I was procrastinating on more important tasks. This month also includes quite a bit of time I have spent on a secret project. This something that I had in the back of my last year and have finally decided that I want to see it come to life in the next few months.
Traffic for March improved a bit over February. I had set a goal of 5000 page views which was a bit lofty compared to the roughly 1800 page views that I saw in February. This was still at 17% increase over February.
Top viewed pages for February include The Home Business Startup Bible Review, February 2015 Income Report, and 3 Easy Ways to Supplement Your Income. My most trafficked blog post was written over a year ago and due to its success on Pinterest it still generates a ton of traffic every month. This past month it was 23% of all of my page views. Since I have written this post I have updated some things like the graphic however, I feel like there is more that I should be doing with this page to keep readers on my site and hopefully subscribe to my email list. I just haven’t found the “right” way to take advantage of this one post.

This month I was in the red, but that is something I anticipated because I couldn’t resist the March bundle from Creative Market and added a new tool called EasyAzon which made adding products from Amazon a breeze. I also was due to pay my subscription for Grammarly, this tool really is a lifesaver when it comes to proofreading and editing my blog posts. I tried to up my game with the Busybee’s Creation shop by having a sale, it did not yield the results I was hoping for.
Thoughts for the future:
While I did invest a bit of time creating some new products for the Busybee’s Creation shop, I haven’t been able to see the growth I want from it. I would love to see an increase in it as well as the blog. For the upcoming months, I am going to try a new strategy for promoting blog posts and can’t wait to share it with you.
Goals for April:
I have decided to share my top three goals for the upcoming month to help build public accountability and motive myself to work even harder for those goals so that I can cross them off on the next income report.
- Earn $300 from Busybee’s Creation
- Have 5000 pageviews
- Publish 8 blog posts for the month
Because I wasn’t able to reach these goals for the month of March I am carrying them over for the month of April. I still believe these are attainable goals but will require some tweaking of the methods I have used previously.
What are you doing to help grow your blog? I would love to hear what is working for you in the comments.
